What is Siberian Ice?

(Brief Alternative Diamond Education)

Since the birth of the "fake" diamond, or CZ as it is called, a demand was risen for a quality and attractive diamond alternative. For the most part it was related, and always will be, to the maintained value of the almighty earth mined diamond. Almost everyone would love to own an exquisite jewelry item set with this precious gemstone but unable to afford such a thing. The options would be a less than desirable ring, pendant or earring design (most commonly bronze or poor quality silver) set with a soon to be milky colored CZ or glass rock.

For the past 10 years, or so, many manufacturers have made bold attempts for a better quality option. Everything from re-shaping, polishing and coating an alreaady troubled product. In todays world, because of better technology, better products are emerging. In fact, so much so, that they have developed a grading system for Cubic Zirconia diamond simulant quality ranging from an A to AAAAA standards. Now further steps have been taken. The age of the Lab Created simulated diamond. A process controlled in a laboratory enviroment. Take an old shool idea and perfect it. Remove the dirts, contaminations, air molecules and fractures from the elements and produce a better and cleaner raw product. A product that can be hand/laser cut (to GIA specs) like a genuine diamond and polished like a genuine diamond. Now we have a product that can be set in quality precious metal jewelry designs and make them beautiful, durable and more affordable.

Siberian Ice®

One of the latest Lab Created simulated diamonds available. At under $50.00 per carat, compared to a less than appealing Lab Grown diamond near $3500.00 per carat, why would anyone not want to consider these gemstones as an option. A gemstone that visually compares to a flawless diamond, beautiful white color, durable (rated at 8.8 mohs) and has a warranty to stay that way. Everything visually desired from a perfect diamond without the high cost. All the bling and without the sting.

Seeing is Believing..

It is human nature.

In fact, some of the most seasoned jewelers in the world know 2 things about diamonds. Either they are real or a CZ. Most of them are not educated enough about the different qualities of diamond alternatives. Most have even been fooled by Siberian Ice.

If you are searching for a quality cost effective fine jewelry product, it is important to know and understand what options are available.Due to the high cost of natural diamond products, many have considered a diamond alternative. There is a term used called Lab Created when describing a diamond option and it is important to know what this term means. Lab Created simply means the product(s) are manufactured in a controlled (lab) environment. This approach is to assure a more precise product. Siberian Ice® is an actual crystal based Lab Created diamond simulant. There are many companies and sellers offering, what they call, lab created. The truth is most of them are a machine made common cubic zirconia. We would not expect anyone to really know the difference but, we assure you, there is. Seeing is believing.

Lab Grown Diamonds -vs- Lab Created Diamond Simulants

Lab Grown Diamond.. A manufacturing process designed to replicate how a earth mined diamond is formed. A method of Simulating extreme heat and pressures while using carbon based elements. Although the product is desirable, it is limited in carat weight and still very expensive. This product is not without inclusions and, in many cases, not a desired color. In most cases they are rated a VS2-SI1 clarity and G-J color. This product will test positive for diamond but is not a genuine earth mined diamond.

Lab Created Diamond Simulant.. A manufacturing process designed to chemically produce a crystal based mixture that is maintained in controlled (Lab) environment. The concept is to reduce contamination and air molecules from the mixture thus resulting in a better raw product. A product that can be laser cut and hand polished just like a raw genuine diamond would be. The results are a clean - white beautiful gemstone with a hardness rating of near a 9 on the Mohs scale. This product is visually compared to a VVS-FL clarity and D in color. Because this is a crystal based gemstone, it will not test positive for diamond.

Please don't be fooled by all the misleading claims. Just like the old saying, you get what you pay for.

Siberian Ice® comes with an exclusive iron clad unconditional LIFETIME STONE GUARANTEE against Fading, Discoloring, Clouding, Chipping or Scratching under normal wear and use. In the unlikely event that this should ever happen, Michael Shea Diamonds will offer a replacement stone absolutely FREE OF CHARGE.

What Precious Metals are Used

We begin by saying we use the finest precious metal grains available. All of our posted jewelry designs are cast in Solid 14K gold but most designs can be made of Solid 10K white, yellow or rose gold, 18K white, yellow or rose gold, Continuum® silver, Solid platinum and Solid palladium. Although some people do have allergies related to certain precious metal, our metals are of the purest standards and do not contain any nickel or lead alloys. Please contact us if you have any questions or if you would like to request a custom order.

What is Palladium ?

Palladium is the precious metal of the 21st century. It is the sister to Platinum. Palladium is a lustrous silvery white metal with the atomic number 46 and chemical abbreviation of Pd. Because the metal is extremely rare it can command a high price on the open market but due to high cost of Gold and Platinum, Palladium is a more cost effective alternative for fine jewelry.

The metal was discovered in 1803 by William Hyde Wollaston, who named it palladium after the asteroid Pallas. The asteroid, in turn, was named for a Greek Goddess of Wisdom. Palladium often occurs in conjunction with platinum and gold. The metal resists tarnish, and is extremely ductile, meaning that it takes readily to working. When palladium is cold worked, the tensile strength greatly increases. Palladium can be polished to brilliance just like Gold and Platinum.

What is Continuum® Silver ?

The Look of Platinum and the Strength of Gold

Developed in 2012, Continuum™ sterling silver has over 95% precious metal content of quality Sterling Silver and Palladium. It is considered a European-friendly sterling silver, as it contains no nickel. It is a grade 1 bright white metal that will polish to a beautiful luster. This patent-pending sterling silver has an as-cast hardness that allows setting of high quality stones in a sterling silver jewelry. This, combined with superior oxidizing and tarnish resistance, allows for a finish that will last longer.
It can easily be age hardened up to 150 HV, making it comparable to the “as-cast” hardness of 14kt gold. It remains ductile after hardening and can be used to make high quality earring clutch backs and other jewelry components that require springiness. Continuum’s mechanical properties fall between those of 14kt yellow gold and most other sterling silver alloys. This versatile alloy can be used for casting, die striking, and producing mill products.

About Moissanite

Moissanite is inspired by ancient stardust. Fifty thousand years ago, a meteorite flashed across the sky and landed in Arizona, creating Meteor Crater, a vast hole in the earth’s surface 570 feet deep and nearly a mile across, along with scattering meteorite fragments across the desert. Some landed a few miles away in nearby Canyon Diablo where in 1893, Nobel Prize-winning scientist Dr. Henri Moissan discovered tiny sparkling crystals of silicon carbide. This new gem was later named moissanite in his honor by Tiffany & Co. gem expert and mineralogist George Kunz. Naturally-occurring moissanite is incredibly rare. Just a handful of crystals have been discovered, always in extreme environments like meteorites, upper mantle rock, or even as tiny inclusions inside diamonds.

A century later, the first large gem quality crystals were successfully grown in a high-tech North Carolina lab. Charles & Colvard introduced the world to the brilliance and fire of gem-quality moissanite in 1998 and today remains the sole source of created moissanite gemstones.

Why do so many people prefer Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite to other colorless gems? It outshines any other gem… side by side, there’s no comparison. With a refractive index of 2.65-2.69, moissanite exhibits more brilliance than diamond. And thanks to a dispersion that’s 2.4 times higher than diamond, moissanite bends light into mesmerizing rainbow flashes of fire… over two times more than diamond, ruby, emerald or sapphire. By day and by night, moissanite simply dances with light. And, carat for carat, no gem adds more beauty to your life for less of an investment. When you choose moissanite jewelry, you don’t have to compromise quality, size, or style to fit your budget. All of our Moissanite gems come with a limited lifetime warranty registration and Authenticity.
